Each year, Duke LTC provides student stipends and helps to arrange ten to twelve week, primarily summer, internship placements across a wide range of organizations related to the candidate's specific academic background and interests in aging and long term care.

Student Internship Application Process
Originally established for Duke University students, the Leadership Internship Program also accepts applications from students at other colleges and universities who have a serious interest in aging policy. Stipend support from the N.C. Institute on Aging is available to UNC system based applicants.

In general, applicants for the Leadership Internship Program should:
  • Have graduate student status or be a rising junior or above at the undergraduate level
  • Show evidence of leadership potential and a serious interest in aging policy
  • Be seeking an internship experience as a first priority (rather than regular employment)
  • Demonstrate a sound academic preparation particularly related to strong oral and written communication skills
  • Complete the application process which includes a personal interview (phone interviews will be arranged for applicants who are at a significant distance from the Duke Campus)

Other useful information for potential applicants:

Most internships are for 10-to-12 week summer experiences in the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina or Washington, DC. Applicants who have completed the application process (including the interview) by the initial deadline will receive first round consideration in the selection process. The internship application deadline is January 31.
